Teachers' Notes
Discover Jainism
To help with the teaching of Jainism we have produced a series of teachers’ notes with suggestions on how to use the ‘Learn Jainism’ website and the ‘Discover Jainism’ book in the classroom. They are all linked to the QCA Units on Religious Education for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3.
We are planning to create more teachers’ notes with suggested classroom activities with a greater emphasis on literacy, art and design and cross-curricular work.
Building a Jain Vocabulary
These notes and classroom activities are intended to extend the use of words used by Jains through their beliefs and lives.

Jain Tales
Another Point of View
This exercise can help with both reading and writing comprehension.
All of the stories in ‘Jain Tales’ are written from the point of view of the narrator. One way of deepening a pupil’s understanding of a story is to see if they can see the same story from another perspective.
Ask your pupils to re-write one of the stories in ‘Jain Tales’ from the point of view of one of the main characters in the story. Make sure that different groups of pupils choose different characters. When their stories have been completed this can lead to a discussion about how changes in viewpoint can change a story.

We have provided you with a spread from the story of ‘Monkey and Sugari’ with several words blocked out. There is also the complete spread so that you can see what the original words were.
